In a drawn match Botham took another 5 wicket haul in the first innings as India were dismissed for 96. He contributed 36 in England's only innings. Botham claimed his 100th wicket in this game.

In his nineteenth match Flintoff managed to pass 50 for only the third time, scoring 59 in the first innings, but only 7 in his second when quick runs were required. He took 2/22 in 19 miserly overs in India's first innings, but he bowled 17 wicketless overs for 87 runs in the second innings. England won the match by 170 runs, after deciding not to enforce the follow-on.
