A broken toe, whilst bowling in South Africa's only innings, ended Flintoff's involvement not only in his 6th test, but also for the rest of the tour. Unsurprisingly he contributed little to England's cause, which ended in an innings defeat for his country. He hit 22 in his only innings, batting at 8, and could only manage 4 wicketless overs in South Africa's single match winning score of 421.

In this match Hussain was given out LBW to a ball that he hit for four without it making contact with the pad. The Umpire was BC Cooray, whose poor umpiring would allow Hussain to make a match winning century in Kandy in March 2001. Proof perhaps that these things do even out in the end.
